Celebrating its 50th Anniversary, WEST SIDE STORY is famed Broadway legends’ Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim’s musical answer to ROMEO AND JULIET. Set in Manhattan in the 1950’s, WEST SIDE STORY chronicles the war between two teenage gangs – the “local” Jets, led by wisecracking Riff, and the Puerto Rican Sharks, led by the serious and suave Bernardo. Tensions explode when Bernardo’s sister Maria falls for Tony, “an American”, and past leader of the Jets. WEST SIDE STORY won two Tony Awards, including one for the spectacular Choreography by the late Jerome Robbins, and made a star out of up-and-comer Chita Rivera. The 1961 film version went on to win an impressive 10 Academy Awards. Bernstein’s legendary score includes such standards as “Tonight”, “Somewhere” and ”I Feel Pretty.” Fall in love with this Broadway Classic once again!
